Red Dress Redress

I am a hobbyist photographer located in Ladysmith, BC.
This is a photo of “The REDress Project” by Vancouver Island University which originated with Jaime Black who created the original public art exhibition in response to the missing and murdered indigenous women epidemic in Canada and the US. I was drawn to this by the subtle form of protest being carried out on the Nanaimo roadside. As you traveled the road along the parkway in Nanaimo you came across many varieties of red dresses hanging along the parkway path with no indication of the meaning. I feel this photo captures that same essence, on the surface it is a lovely dress blending well with the red tree leaves, looking deeper you begin to think that it is missing something or someone, what young women would belong to this dress.
